The Ghana Immigration Service has carried out one of its largest single anti-fraud operations to date, raiding six houses inside the upscale DEVTRACO Estate in Accra, arresting 93 Nigerian nationals, and rescuing 73 victims who had been subjected to severe abuse and torture.
The intelligence-led operation was announced in a press release dated March 9, 2026, and was coordinated by Deputy Superintendent of Immigration Newman Akuffo of the GIS National Operations Unit. Of the 93 arrested, 91 are male, and 2 are female, all facing charges related to alleged internet fraud and immigration offences.
Among the items seized from the six properties were 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, 17 television sets, counterfeit US dollar notes, and fake gold bars, equipment authorities say, pointing to a well-organised criminal network running online scams and financial fraud.
Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the suspects entered Ghana through unapproved border routes, while others had overstayed their 90-day visa-free entry. The 73 rescued victims have since been transported to Nigeria while investigations continue at GIS National Headquarters in Accra.
